What is a fraction? How do we add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions? If you need some help in learning or reviewing these concepts, then this website may help you!

My observation is that many people suffer from fraction anxiety because they do not want to be wrong when working with fractions so they avoid thme altogether. Such a strategy rarely helps a person learn fractions. So, instead of avoiding fractions, why not invest some time and see if you can learn these skills.

It may really help you!

Where to Find Video Examples of High School Math!

Where Can A Student/Parent/Guardian Find Video Examples of High School Math Topics?

Answer: WWW.MATHTV.COM

The Problem:  A frustrated student, parent, is studying but does not understand the solution. Written words alone do not seem to be helping.

The Options: 1. Give up; 2. Try another approach.

A Possible Solution:  try  another approach. Watch an online video on the topic from www.mathtv.com . My initial observation is that many classic math problems are organized and explained very well. Beginner numeracy, linear relations, graphing skills, qaudratics, exponential functions, and calculus examples are explained. Study the examples given very closely and you too might learn more math!

Check it out! The link is  www.mathtv.com

How to Find the Equation of a Line with KHAN ACADEMY...

Linear Equations 1-2-3 with KHAN ACADEMY.

Sometimes people miss a lesson in class due to illness or sports and start falling behind. One way to prevent falling behind is to watch, and learn from, the amazing collection of videos offered free online by KHAN ACADEMY.

I have viewed many of these video lessons and found them to be accurate.

So why bother learning this?

Well, in short, it helps your mark; it helps your understanding of the world; it helps support your brain knowledge; and once you have learned it you may find it is not difficult at all.

People wanting to go to university to be doctors, lawyers, engineers, or scientists all need to know this material. So, set aside some time, watch, and learn!

Get the point?

Enjoy,

P. Hanna

What are integers?

Integers are a type of number. The set of integers includes all natural numbers such as +1, +2, +3, and so on. And integers include all negative natural numbers such as -1, -2, -3, -4, ......and so on. Plus integers include the number zero.

So an integer is any number contained in the set of numbers {...-3, -2, 1, 0, 1, 2, 3, ... }

Is +100 an integer? Yes.
Is - 234 an integer? Yes.
Is  1.25 an integer? No, since the number 1.25 is not one of the numbers in the set of integers.

6 Tips for Grade 9 & 10 Math Students (Ontario)

Hanna's Math Tips For Grade 9/10 Students.

1st. Register for Free Math Online Chat Help for grade 9 and 10 students. approx 5:30-9pm Mon-Thurs.
Register using your Ontario Education Number (OEN) shown on any report card.
Register at https://homeworkhelp.ilc.org/secure/login.php

2. Find and bookmark http://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra/quadtratics It has complete video lessons. Grab your questions, some pencils and paper, a calculator, and headphones. Give yourself 30-60 minutes to learn. Then watch, rewind, pause, and watch again. All high school math topics are covered here. Wow!

3. Make a Math "Vocabulary" List for new words, expressions, and formulas. Eg. What does FACTOR mean? What are the ZEROES of a quadratic equation?

4. Explore www.algebrahelp.com shows algebra tips and strategies for SOLVING EQUATIONS.

5. Write down any questions you have at night. Give the list to your teacher at the beginning of next class. Respectfully, ask to be shown how these (or similar) questions are done properly. Keep it to 1 or 2 key questions.

6. To boost confidence, follow this plan:
  • Day 1 - Ask to sit in the front row to see better.
  • Also on Day 1, ask at least 1 question during class;
  • Ask at least 1 questions again for Days 2, 3, 4, and 5. Realize that nothing bad happens by asking a question.
  • Then, from Day 6 and every day thereafter keep asking at least 1 question during class. It can be any question at all! This confidence building activity only works if the plan is followed. (Try writing down the questions the night before it that helps). Use a checklist to track your effort and results.

Finally, I am convinced that all students can learn math. But it takes time and effort.
Good luck. And never give up!

About Ontario's EQAO for Grade 9 Math

EQAO is a province-wide standardized test that all grade 9 math students must write. The test is typically written in January (semester 1 students) and June (semester 2 students). The Government of Ontarion has a lot of resources available for students, parents/guardians, and teachers online.

EQAO Grade 9 Mathematics information can be found at http://www.eqao.com/Parents/Secondary/09/09.aspx?Lang=E&gr=09

Is extra help available?

Yes, extra help is available. Just ask in class. If you are too shy or nervous to ask in class, please write the question on some paper and give it to me at the start of class. I will try to answer the question at the beginning of class for everyone.

What supplies should students bring to class?

Students are expected to bring the following supplies to every class:
1. A 3-ringed binder to keep class notes organized;
2. Lined paper and/or 1cm squared graphing paper;
3. Pencils such as an HB2 pencil (an eraser is also helpful);
4. A small ruler (approx 6 inches);
5. A scientific calculator. It must be have the sin, cos, tan buttons.

If you have any questions, be sure to ask in class.

Calculators

What kind of calculator should students use in high school? My observation is that calculators having a two-line display are better than ones that only have a single line display. This is because the user can see both the question and the answer at the same time. This allows us the opportunity of checking to see if we keyed in the question correctly.
